What Really Happens During a Professional Pet Sitting Visit?

When you hand someone the keys to your home and trust them with your pets, you deserve to know exactly what happens behind the scenes.

At Woof Hoof Mew, a visit is never just a quick stop to fill a bowl. It is thoughtful, intentional care built on experience, safety, and love.

Arrival: Before we even greet your pet, we pause. We check doors and gates, scan for wildlife (very real in the mountains), listen for anything unusual inside the home, and review visit notes and special instructions. If there is snow or ice, we move carefully. If there is a storm, we assess access. If something feels off, we investigate before proceeding. Safety always comes first.

Not every pet greets visitors the same way. Some rush the door with joy. Some hang back. Some senior dogs need help getting up. We enter calmly and confidently, allowing your pet to approach in their own way. We don't rush those first few moments. They set the tone for the entire visit.

Visit Routine: When it is time for harnessing, potty breaks, or exercise, we secure harnesses properly, double-check gates and leashes, monitor body language, and adjust pace for age and health. For senior dogs, that might mean a slower walk with extra support. For high-energy pups, that might mean structured movement and enrichment. We are always observing gait changes, limping, digestive issues, and signs of stress. You would be surprised how often early concerns are caught during routine visits.

Feeding and medications are handled with the same level of care. We follow your instructions exactly, measuring food precisely, administering medications carefully, monitoring appetite, watching for vomiting or digestive changes, and refreshing water. For pets with more complex routines—supplements, insulin, belly bands, or diapers—we move slowly and patiently. There is no rushing medical care.

And then there is the part that matters just as much as the logistics: Connection. We sit on the floor. We offer belly rubs. We toss the favorite toy. We speak gently or play in a silly manner depending on your pet's unique needs. We observe emotional state. Care is not only physical—it is emotional. We want your pet to feel safe, seen, and loved while you are away.

Extras: While we are there, we also bring in packages, rotate lights if requested, water plants, check for leaks or unusual smells, clean food bowls, and tidy pet areas. Your home is treated with respect. We understand that we are guests in your space.

Communication & Departure: Before we leave, we document the visit thoroughly. You receive a detailed report, photos, confirmation of services completed, and any observations or concerns. If something feels even slightly concerning, we reach out immediately. Communication is never delayed when it comes to your pet’s well-being.

Before locking up, we confirm gates are latched, double-check doors, ensure pets are safely inside, and turn off lights as instructed. We never assume. We verify.

Many people are surprised by how much happens during a single professional pet sitting visit. Professional pet care is not casual. It is trained, observant, and accountable. Our team is structured, insured, experienced, and committed to doing this work with integrity. And yes, we love your pets deeply. But love without systems is not enough. Your animals deserve both.

If you ever have questions about your pet’s routine or want to talk through a customized care plan here in Conifer or Evergreen, we are always here.

Warm Wags,

❤️ Elizabeth & the Woof Hoof Mew Team
